Advantages of rechargable Li-ion batteries
- higher energy density means that Li-ion batteries can store more energy than same size or same weight counterparts;
- lower self discharge rate means that Lithium-ion batteries retain their charge for a longer period of time, even for weeks or months of storage;
- there is no memory effect, so Li-ion batteries are capable to hold the same charge even if they are repeatedly recharged after being only partially discharged;
Proper handling of Li-ion betteries
- storage temperature is important, store in a cool (below 25°C or 77°F) place to prevent capacity loss;
- it's suggested to fully charge and discharge the battery after stored for more than 5 months, then charge for 40% once more for longtime storage;
- in general, Li-ion batteries provide 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. Try to avoid frequent full discharges, partial discharges result in longer battery life.
Safety precautions
Lithium-ion batteries might be very dangerous when mistreated, so safety rules must strictly be observed.
- Operating temperature should be below 45°C or 113°F.
- Do not put the battery into fire or into water
- Do not expose the battery to direct heat
- Do not short-circuit the battery pack terminals
- Do not force to open the battery pack
- Do not drop the battery, avoid fierce strike
- Do not expose the battery to direct sunlight for a long period in an enclosed place, for example in a car
